Safety Connection On the GO!

On the GO! is a child passenger safety program designed to support efforts in underserved communities across the U.S. The program is managed by the National Safety Council through a partnership with Buckle Up for Life and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The On the GO! team works collaboratively with state CPS leaders with a goal to extend CPS reach and help community safety advocates maintain CPS resources. Our mission is to serve as an extension of your vision by providing tools and resources you can use to serve all families. We encourage you to dig in here and learn more about how On the GO! can help you!

Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Courses

On the GO! includes a mobile instructor team who are available to support your CPS development goals. On the GO! can work with you to:

  • Support the development of a stronger CPST base through certification course assistance
  • Support CPST retention by providing training and recertification services
  • Mentor CPST interested in instructorship before, during and after the course
  • Support in the development and sustainability of car seat checking stations through ongoing collaboration and mentoring after the class is over

The On the GO! program manager will meet with your state and local CPS leadership to help develop courses in areas of need, provide instructors when needed, and continue to support that immediate area, after the course, to help develop a stable and thriving program. Any support provided in the area identified by the state leaders will be based upon a collaborative plan of action. Our teams will work transparently for the benefit of the communities served.

Ongoing Support

Often, child passenger safety programs in rural areas struggle with program stability due to the lack of resources to retain a certified CPST base. This can lead to a loss of momentum and interest in the program. On the GO! can provide state and local leadership mentoring services in identified areas to help facilitate better communication, stronger outreach and support technicians in maintaining their certifications. Through thoughtful collaboration, mentorship, and strategic planning, our partnership can also build leadership in these areas.

Strategic Planning – Our team will work with you to identify local champions in identified ares, and then assist in building and implementing a strategic plan where, together, we can build a sustaining and successful program. This can include:

  • Identification and support of Instructor Candidates
  • Development of car seat checking stations
  • Course planning and implementation
  • Recertification Support for CPST
  • Identification and support of funding sources

Supporting Services – To support the state and local leadership during program development, Safety Connection Virtual Services can provide assistance to caregivers and CPST through:

  • Virtual Car Seat Checks in English and Spanish (more languages to come)
  • Native language support services connect English-speaking CPSTs with Spanish-speaking CPSTs, via Safety Connection Virtual Services, to assist in caregiver education during in-person appointments.
  • Program referal support to help build resource recognition.

Mentoring – The On the GO! team will provide mentorship and support to the local program champions through

  • Buckle Babble online Q&A sessions – Available the 2nd Tuesday of even months (Feb., April, June, Aug., Oct., Dec)
  • Monthly check-ins with state leadership and program champions
  • Assistance with future courses as needed
