Vehicle and Car Seat Recalls
What are recalls, and why are they important?
Vehicle and car seat manufacturers will issue a recall on their product due to failure to conform to a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) or if a defect is found that could cause injury.
Not all recalls require an owner to stop using their vehicle or car seat. Some recalls are due to an issue that does not immediately affect the use of the vehicle or car seat.
How do I know if there is a recall?
Vehicle manufacturers and car seat manufacturers notify owners of their product when a recall is issued. That notification explains the recall and provides a free remedy to the owner. Vehicle owners can take their vehicle to the service department of their vehicle manufacturer for a free repair. Car seat owners will need to contact the manufacturer of their car seat to work with them to obtain the free remedy.
Owners of vehicles purchased used and owners of car seats that were not registered with the manufacturer may not receive the notification of a recall as the manufacturer may not have the current owner’s information. Because of this, it is important to check for recalls on your vehicle and on any car seats you currently own. Use one of these free tools to check for recalls today.
