Schedule a Virtual Seat Check Sign-off

Before scheduling, please review this CPST Seat Check Sign-off Checklist. These guidelines must be followed for all sign-offs.

CPST Recertification Requirements

Safe Kids Worldwide is the certifying body responsible for administering all aspects of the Child Passenger Safety Certification Program in the United States.

CPSTs are required to recertify every two years.

Recertification requirements include:

  1. Technical Continuing Education Hours (6)
  2. Instructor or Technician Proxy-Observed Car Seat Checks (5)
  3. Continuing Education Requirement
  4. Community Education Requirement (one of the following)
    • Participate in a two-hour seat checkup event, or
    • Provide at least four hours of community education to people who are not CPSTs, or
    • Attend a one hour (minimum) educational session(s), live or online that includes how to better reach community members or underserved communities, improve communication skills or instructor development.

To retain your certification, you must complete the recertification requirements before your certification expires.

  • You may complete the recertification requirements at any time during the certification cycle.
  • All recertification information must be entered into your CPST profile at cert.safekids.org.

Free, national webinars that meet continuing education and community education recertification requirements are offered monthly. Registration is required.

Image of a smiling child standing outside of a school busThe Child Passenger Safety on School Buses National Training provides an overview of use of child safety restraint systems on school buses, with a focus on preschool-aged children and children with disabilities. CPSTs will earn 3.5 continuing education units and their school bus endorsement for completing the training.
